Each semester, the German Reading Contest at Hübschmann·Zhan School is a highly anticipated language event on campus. It not only tests students' reading abilities but also revitalizes German language learning through its unique format, serving as a stage for students to enhance their skills and demonstrate their talent in reading.
Different from conventional competitions, the German Reading Contest adopts a "random selection" participation model. This element of uncertainty challenges students' adaptability on the spot while encouraging daily accumulation of German reading, integrating learning into life rather than relying on last-minute preparation. The "German Tongue Twister" stands out as a highlight. Teachers present humorous tongue twisters containing easily confused sounds and complex sentence structures, first guiding students to read slowly and feel the rhythm, then speeding up to challenge their limits. Some students practice repeatedly for tricky syllables, while others read smoothly with excellent linguistic intuition. This not only eases competition tension but also helps everyone discover the fun of learning German, sparking enthusiasm for exploring the charm of the language.
At the end of the contest, after evaluation by the judges based on criteria such as pronunciation, emotional expression, and fluency, three students ultimately stood out. Although some claimed the top spots and others did not, every participant came away with valuable gains. They not only enhanced their German reading skills and adaptability, but also gained a clearer understanding of their own strengths and areas for improvement through exchange and competition.
