When the children’s small footsteps crossed the threshold of the Liaoning Paleontology Museum, time seemed to instantly rewind millions of years. Students from Grades 1 to 4 at HuZ School embarked on a paleontological learning journey that bridged languages and eras. Here, the origins of dinosaurs, precious fossil treasures, and the mysteries of how birds came to be were transformed into surprises they could see and feel up close.
In the museum, every fossil is a “messenger of time.” Following the evolutionary footsteps of dinosaurs, the children examined rare fossils from around the world—ranging from Chinese pterosaur skeletons to prehistoric remains from Africa. The guide vividly explained evolutionary stories from different continents, weaving in tales of international joint expeditions. Through comparison and exploration, the students gained a clearer understanding of the diverse achievements in global paleontology and witnessed firsthand the astonishing process of birds evolving from dinosaurs.
A blended Chinese–German learning environment extended into every corner of the museum. The interaction of languages made the exchange of knowledge warmer and more engaging. As the children touched traces of ancient life, they also experienced the strength of scientific research in China.
Leaving the museum with stories spanning hundreds of millions of years in their minds, the students of HuZ School not only touched the ancient memories of our planet but also planted seeds of curiosity, openness, and sharing through cross-cultural and cross-linguistic communication. The long-silent fossils came alive through the children’s exploration, and different languages found common ground through shared fascination—that is the most precious kind of discovery and encounter in childhood.
