Arbor Day is here again, arriving together with spring and bringing renewed attention to environmental protection. On March 12, students at Hübschmann·Zhan School participated in a fun and engaging Arbor Day event, where they learned to connect with nature, develop their skills, care for the environment, and show love for the Earth. Students from all grade levels took part enthusiastically, each contributing a touch of green to the campus in their own unique way.
Exploring the Wonderful World of Trees
First-grade students embarked on a fascinating journey to learn about trees. Guided by their teachers, they carefully observed different tree shapes, leaf forms, and colors. By touching the trunks, they felt the unique textures of each tree. Later, they created tree bark rubbings by gently placing paper over the trunk and carefully shading it with colored pencils. As the tree’s patterns emerged on the paper, each rubbing became a delightful and artistic creation. Through this activity, the young students gained a more tangible understanding of trees.
Becoming Tree Ambassadors
Second-grade students focused on making informational signs for trees. They conducted research to learn about the names, characteristics, and habits of various trees on campus. Each student carefully wrote down the tree’s details on beautifully decorated cards and illustrated simple tree sketches. These signs were then hung on the respective trees, serving as their personalized "name tags." Not only did this activity help everyone learn more about trees, but it also strengthened the students’ sense of responsibility toward nature.
Creating Cozy Homes for Birds
Third-grade students took on the task of providing homes for birds. Using a variety of materials, they meticulously crafted birdhouses—building frames with branches and adding creative colors to their designs. Their hope was that birds would settle in these cozy homes, bringing more life and energy to the campus.
Planting Green, Growing Together
The most exciting activity was the tree-planting event led by fourth-grade students. In designated areas of the playground, students worked together to plant saplings, carefully placing them in pits, straightening them, filling in the soil, and watering them. Every step was carried out with great attention and care. As they watched their saplings sway gently in the breeze, they knew these young trees would grow strong in the future, providing shade and shelter for the campus.
Hübschmann·Zhan School has always been committed to integrating environmental awareness into its daily curriculum and activities. Each grade level contributed to environmental protection in its own way. Through these activities, students developed a deeper understanding of the importance of afforestation, planted seeds of environmental consciousness in their hearts, and made the campus greener and more vibrant. Let’s work together to protect our blue planet!
