On Wednesday, March 5th, a day filled with the vibrant essence of spring, Hübschmann·Zhan School launched an exciting school trip, where our students enjoyed a “Walking English class”. The English teachers designed a zoo-based research and study course. By assigning tasks, they integrated language learning with the exploration of the animal world, creating a natural learning environment for our students.
Immersive Language Training
Upon arriving at the zoo, the students held worksheets in their hands while exploring. They took notes of animal, their favorite food, their kingdom, class, order, family, genus, habitats, dietary habits, etc. based on the topics they had studied in their classes. The students described the animals' appearance and behaviors in English, improving their language skills through practical application.
Through this opportunity, the students learned to think from the perspective of animals, analyze the survival threats they face, and propose solutions. After this practical experience, everyone not only enhanced their critical thinking and problem-solving skills but also improved their scientific observation abilities by writing detailed observation records in English.
Project-Based Learning Extension
By using language in real life contexts, the students considered animal conservation issues through critical thinking in English. They not only gained language skills but also developed a sense of care and responsibility toward animals. Under the guidance of their teachers, they created posters and powerpoints in English, analyzed the pros and cons of zoos, wrote animal profiles, introduced their favorite animals, and told stories from the perspective of animals, calling for greater attention to animal protection...
Deep Integration of Knowledge and Practice
This school trip to the zoo not only allowed our students to learn English in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere but also broadened their horizons, nurturing their observation, critical thinking, and communication skills. It was an interdisciplinary trip of exploration and an unforgettable growth experience!
