Dec  20, 2024

On December 3rd, as part of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, Hübschmann·Zhan School had the honour of hosting Émilie Seto, a young French illustrator, through an invitation by the French Consulate General in Shenyang. She conducted a painting workshop with students, immersing them in a vibrant and inspiring cultural exchange.

Émilie Seto's artwork captures the essence of urban life, illuminating the shared sense of home in the city. During the workshop, she shared her depictions of Shenyang's cityscapes, allowing the students to appreciate the distinctive charm and character of the city's streets and corners through her unique perspective.

During the workshop, 11 students from the English group gathered around a table and collaborated on a painting inspired by a picturesque view of Shenyang. In the process, the students not only diligently learned painting techniques but also joyfully shared the experience of creating art together. Each brushstroke expressed their admiration for Shenyang's beautiful scenery and their passion for art, bringing these feelings vividly to life on the canvas.

The French group, consisting of 8 students, was divided into 4 teams. Each group focused intently on their creative process, guided step by step by Émilie. Every 15 minutes, they switched to a new painting technique, a novel approach that greatly enhanced their creativity and imagination. By the end of the workshop, the 4 teams successfully completed 4 collaborative artworks. Through this experience, the students gained a deep appreciation for the importance of details in painting and learned how to skilfully distribute colours to create more harmonious and dynamic compositions.

As the day progressed, the inspiring painting workshop concluded in a joyful and lively atmosphere. This unique experience allowed the students to participate in an art lesson that transcended national boundaries, while their interactions with the French artist helped them appreciate the universal charm and shared aspects of artistic expression across different cultures. It was not merely a lesson in painting but also an unforgettable journey of cultural exchange and intellectual connection. This experience is sure to leave a lasting impression on the students' growth and development.
