The Taste Week is an annual event aimed at raising awareness among children and adults about the diversity of flavors. During this week, many activities are organized in French schools in France and around the world to celebrate gastronomy.
For the first time, the French Section of Hübschmann·Zhan School participated in this event by organizing a series of exciting activities.
Blind Taste Test
Firstly, the French Section students organized a blind taste test of four different foods: sweet, salty, sour, and bitter. Students and teachers from the whole school had to guess the flavor of the product they had in their mouth. It was both fun and educational.
Journey on“Food”
On Wednesday, Chinese students participating in the extracurricular activity "French as a Foreign Language" had the chance to taste cheeses from France, brought by their teacher.
The next day, the French Section students enjoyed a special meal prepared by families. Each student brought specialties of their country or region. Among the dishes offered were pissaladière (Provence), gombo and cassava leaf salad (Democratic Republic of Congo), Shepperd Pie (United Kingdom), mushroom soup, French and Austrian specialty (cold cut), and sandwiches with various tastes. On the dessert table, there were apple pie, chocolate cake, sponge cake, kiwis, passion fruits, and chocolates. The students enjoyed themselves by discovering the delicious dishes prepared by their classmates' families.
As part of the "World of Books" course, primary students also had the opportunity to hear three short stories about food: "Ah! Les Bonnes Soupes", "Les Deux Goinfres", and "Le Gros Navet". This activity allowed them to understand that food can also be an object of reflection and literary creation.
Walk With The Chef
Finally, a meeting also took place between all the French Section students and the school canteen chef. The children had the opportunity to ask numerous questions about his work and the menus he prepares every day. This meeting was very enriching and allowed them to better understand all the work that goes into the dishes served in the canteen.
In conclusion, the French Section of Hübschmann·Zhan School organized many exciting activities as part of this 34th edition of "Taste Week". These activities allowed the students to discover new flavors, participate in cultural exchanges, and reflect in a fun way on the importance of food. Congratulations to all the participants for their commitment and enthusiasm!
