As the cold wind grows sharper and temperatures continue to drop, many of us wrap ourselves in warm clothes and enjoy the comfort of being indoors. Meanwhile, stray cats hidden in the corners of the city are enduring the harshest trials of winter. Curled up against the cold and struggling to find food, they long for even a small trace of warmth.
The HuZ Cares initiative at Hübschmann·Zhan School once again set out on a journey of compassion. After connecting with a stray cat rescue association and learning about the difficult conditions these animals face, the school decided to use the remaining funds from the 2025 campus charity run to help protect them through the winter.
The donations earned through students’ hard work and sweat were not wasted. On February 5, we carefully purchased supplies such as cat food, canned food, and insulated cat shelters. Carrying this weight of love, we traveled to the rescue base to begin a heartwarming, mutually healing encounter.
Everyone worked together—transporting supplies, feeding the cats, and interacting with them. Most of these cats had once been abandoned or abused, but fortunately, after arriving at the rescue center, they gradually became more lively and their health steadily improved. With gentle companionship and soft strokes, students and animals warmed one another through a pure and sincere bond. In addition, the students helped organize the base and clean the facilities, creating a tidy and comfortable living environment for the cats.
Watching the cats eat their fill, rest peacefully, and play freely—and knowing that this protection was made possible by the students’ perseverance and the accumulation of donations—filled us with deep emotion. This winter-warming initiative not only brought warmth to stray cats, but also helped students understand responsibility and commitment, and truly appreciate the meaning of passing kindness forward. The goodwill of HuZ Cares continues on. May the modest efforts of young people spread warmth, and may kindness never come to an end.
